Abu El Zulof Kahwa
Ard Diar
Old Damascus
Ard Diar is the courtyard at the heart of the old Damascene house: striped stone, a fountain murmuring at its centre, bitter orange and jasmine overhead. Ours is inside Bab Touma, where the kahwa began.

Ard Diar
From Our Kitchen
The table of the old house
What a Damascene house sets out for its guests. The full menu has the rest.

Fatteh with Chickpeas
Toasted bread, warm yoghurt, pine nuts and ghee, the Damascene breakfast.

Manakish from the Saj
Thyme, Akkawi or meat, baked to order on the dome.

The Damascene Mezze
Hummus, mutabbal, muhammara and warm bread for the table.

Fattoush
Crisp greens, toasted bread, sumac and pomegranate molasses.
The Courtyard
Life gathers around the fountain
In the old houses of Damascus the street gives nothing away: a plain door, a dark passage, and then the sky opens over a courtyard of stone. Ard Diar, the floor of the house, is where the family lived. We kept it that way.
The Bahra
An eight-sided fountain at the centre, its water the sound of the house.
The Iwan
A tall arched hall open to the courtyard, facing north to stay cool.
Narenj & Jasmine
Bitter orange trees in the corners, jasmine climbing the walls.
Ablaq
Black basalt and white limestone laid in turn, course after course.
From Our Guests
“The atmosphere is gorgeous and very damascene. The food was really good and the food felt like it had a “bites” concept which I really liked. The waiter are very friendly. Overall would recommend 🤍”
